Lean
Lean Remote Working - Lean Enterprise Academy
Lean thinkers talk a lot about “going to the gemba.” “Gemba” (also spelt “genba”) is the Japanese term for “actual place.” It is often used as a term for the workplace, where value-creating work actually occurs. The term highlights that real improvement only takes place based on direct observation of current conditions where the work is done. As the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, organisations needed to find ways to operate safely.

Stop jumping to solutions! Start with Study-Adjust before you Plan-Do - Katie Anderson
One of the biggest problems we have in problem-solving is our habit to jump to solutions without really understanding what problem we are trying to solve.
We start with planning to implement our great idea — a new system to implement, more team members to hire, a new building to build — without first identifying what this “solution” is intended to fix or solve.
How Lean Start-ups Can Avoid Big Company Disease
As organizations grow, they tend to become fat, slow, and inflexible. This is the natural result of organizing activities for repeatable results – and has been given the name Big Company Disease (BCD). SATPOS, a lean start-up in Norway specializing in positioning, sensing and monitoring solutions for the ocean is learning to remain agile by observing the effects of BCD on its larger counterparts.

Why I would always map the existing process in discovery - We are Lean and Agile
A few weeks ago(now months when I actually finish this post) there was a really interesting discussion on Twitter prompted by Ben Holliday, it is such a strange situation where I both agree and fundamentally disagree at the same time. There are some assumptions in the discussion that for me are not my experience at all. I want to try and explain why. This post is focussing on a lot of Public Sector use cases but the approach works for any industry or businesses where you are looking to deliver process improvements.
Agile

Have We Taken Agile Too Far?
The idea of “agile” thinking or innovation, along with its close cousin “lean,” has spread far beyond its product development and manufacturing roots. It’s not uncommon now to hear about the agile approach to budgeting, talent management, or even running a family meeting.
Design Thinking
![Why Design Thinking Works](https://dxj7eshgz03ln.cloudfront.net/production/link/image/651533/twenty_by_nine_extra_large_2cc07f39-017c-4aa8-93af-5dcd1090b448.jpg)
Why Design Thinking Works
Occasionally, a new way of organizing work leads to extraordinary improvements. Total quality management did that in manufacturing in the 1980s by combining a set of tools—kanban cards, quality circles, and so on—with the insight that people on the shop floor could do much higher level work than they usually were asked to. That blend of tools and insight, applied to a work process, can be thought of as a social technology.
Continuous Improvement

Doing and managing innovation
For a long time innovation – just like entrepreneurship – has been considered a matter of luck, something that magically happens when the right creative minds meet.
I do not share that belief.
Being lucky is great, but not something that can be counted on consistently.

Excellent reminder on #systemsthinking and mindset shaker by @reinikainen today at @AaltoUniversity Design for government course #govdesign. Also thinking about how to slow down to map problem space, and design adaptable systems solutions for constant change.
